  • History

  • The Bonsai Society of Sydney was formed in 1999 by a group of Megumi Bennett’s bonsai students and was known Megumi’s Bonsai Kai. In 2001, the group held its first public exhibition and in 2002 became a Member of the Australian Associated Bonsai Clubs (AABC) and the Bonsai Federation of Australia (BFA). Membership continued to grow and the name no longer seemed appropriate so after much thought and discussion, the group become the Bonsai Society of Sydney Inc in 2004. The group made a significant contribution to Bonsai in Australia by hosting the 18th AABC National Bonsai Convention held at Sydney Olympic Park in 2005. From a small group of Megumi’s students the Society has grown to boast some 130 members in 2007 and has elected representatives on both the AABC and BFA.

Next Club Meeting

Potty Over Pots

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 23 July at 7:30pm in the studio. At this meeting we will be going POTTY OVER POTS. We will be exploring the history of bonsai pots; looking at some antique pots and for the first time Megumi will show us her collection of miniature pots. So bring along some of your favourite pots, share it with us and discuss with us what you plan to put in it.

We are also organising a POT TRADING TABLE. So if you want to recycle some of those pots you no longer need or want. Bring them along to our table clearly marked with your name and your asking price. If you sell them the club will take 10% of your selling price to boost our club funds.
