History
- The Bonsai Society of Sydney was formed in 1999 by a group of Megumi Bennett’s bonsai students and was known Megumi’s Bonsai Kai. In 2001, the group held its first public exhibition and in 2002 became a Member of the Australian Associated Bonsai Clubs (AABC) and the Bonsai Federation of Australia (BFA). Membership continued to grow and the name no longer seemed appropriate so after much thought and discussion, the group become the Bonsai Society of Sydney Inc in 2004. The group made a significant contribution to Bonsai in Australia by hosting the 18th AABC National Bonsai Convention held at Sydney Olympic Park in 2005. From a small group of Megumi’s students the Society has grown to boast some 130 members in 2007 and has elected representatives on both the AABC and BFA.

A big thank you...
A big thank you to Jill and Matt, who both did a sterling job, Jill as treasurer and Matt as secretary, but unfortunately both felt that they needed to step down this year following the AGM in June. Their work was greatly appreciated and from all of us a very big thank you. Just quietly, congratulations to Matt and Rebecca on the birth of little Thomas Tinker.
